Vaada (transilate: Promise) is a 2005 Bollywood film of the thriller genre. Directed by Satish Kaushik, the plot revolves around a murder amidst a convoluted love-triangle and stars Arjun Rampal portraying as Rahul, the accidentally blinded husband of Pooja played by Amisha Patel, as well as his former best friend and her former crazed lover, Karan, played by Zayed Khan. The screenplay was written by Santosh Sivan and Saket Chaudhary and the dialogue by Abbas Tyrewala.

Plot synopsis

The movie opens as both Rahul and Karan discover the deceased Pooja's body, hanged in the living room of her home, and the mystery of the identiy of her murderer and their complex motives ensue. There are frequent flashbacks of Pooja's and Rahul's happy marriage and the arrival of Karan.

Eventually Karan is indicted but denies his involvement though his history as Pooja's former lover and stalker is revealed along with the fact that Rahul is, in fact, not blind. He has had an eye operation to cure his blindness, but he keeps up the act of being blind.

Karan discovers that Rahul is trying to frame him but he does not understand why until a candid interview when he's already been brought to jail where Rahul reveals that Pooja committed suicide after Rahul caught the two cheating even though, unbeknownst to him, it was against her will. He reveals that Pooja, after having become fed up of Karan, her former, violently possessive boyfriend, and afraid for her and her father's safety, broke up with Karan. After Karan re-entered her life, he threatened her, saying that if she did not cheat on Rahul with him as he said, he would kill Rahul. Pooja was forced to submit to Karan, and when she found out that Rahul saw them cheating, she committed suicide out of shame and hatred for herself and for Karan. Throughout the movie, Rahul has been getting revenge against Karan for Pooja's death, because she committed suicide only because of Karan's constant torments.

The word "Vaada" (meaning promise), signifies Rahul's vow that he will one day, whether rightfully or wrongfully, put Karan behind the bars.
